COMELEC ORDERED THE SUSPENSION OF THE CONDUCT OF THE VALIDATION OF REGISTRATION RECORDS

The Commission on Elections, in a Resolution, ordered the suspension of the conduct of the validation of registration records.

In COMELEC Resolution No. 9741 promulgated July 10, 2013, the poll body said "in order to maximize the workforce of the Offices of the Election Officers nationwide in the conduct of the registration of voters and listing of Katipunan ng Kabataan as well as for other preparatory activities for the October 28, 2013 Synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, there is a need to suspend the conduct of validation."

The COMELEC ordered the suspension effective July 12, 2013, "until further ordered to resume by the Commission En Banc."

Voters' validation involves the capture and submission of biometrics data (digital photo, fingerprints and signature) of voters without or with incomplete biometrics in the registration record.

The COMELEC earlier scheduled the start of voters' validation on July 1, 2013 pursuant to Republic Act No. 10367 or the "Act Providing for Mandatory Biometrics Voter Registration."

The suspension of voters' validation, notwithstanding, the COMELEC stressed that the conduct of voters' registration on July 22 to 31, 2013 is still a go.  [Source: Comelec]
